Version 4.4.1 is deprecated and no longer supported.  Please try installing version 5.1.0 and report if there is still a problem.  Otherwise, we can close this report as being against an old version of Octave.

The note about the Java installation occurs pretty often on the mailing list and might not be the root of trouble.  At startup after installation Octave does not call any important Java-routines, unless invoked by the user.

One item made me suspicious in your rtf-file: "com.igware.ccdi". Some web search shows malware reports about Acer cloud in conjunction with this item:

Question: Do you run an Acer device with some kind of Acer cloud?  Maybe the Windows System integration does some trouble on your system... just blind guessing

Looking at the messages it could be that you've setup Octave to get NEWS from the Internet. Login, named pipe etc. usually refer to communications and the errors appear to be about failed communications. Octave doesn't access network or internet resources unless you explicitly instruct it to do so.

In the main GUI menu, under Edit | Preferences => Network tab, be sure to unselect both settings there.

Please report back if that solves your problem.

Pls see attached output report showing upon startup. Could you specify, in layman's terms, steps to remedy the issue? During installation, there was a brief note regarding some Java program missing. Thanks a lot
