I changed the version to be 5 instead of 5.0 and removed the bit about C++.

For the main "good news" in Octave 5: All that comes to my mind (when reading through the news file) is "improved Matlab compatibility". So maybe we should only delete the "C++ code cleanup" part from this Windows README file and then leave it. as done.

Octave 5 sounds ok to me.

Any suggestions on what to put instead of the improvements in matlab ?

Thanks for this patch.

Do we want to adjust anything else for the upcoming Octave 5 release? This (Windows only) file currently says:

Thank you for installing GNU Octave!

Octave 5.0 is a major release with many improvements in Matlab compatibility
as well as significant cleanup of the core C++ code.

A full list of changes can be found in the Release Notes from the News menu.

[...]

  • Is the upcoming version number really "5.0", or is it "5.1" or maybe we should call it just "Octave 5" and not update this file so often?

  • Is the rest of this text (main improvements are Matlab compatibility and C++ code cleanup) properly reflecting what it the "good news" about this new Octave version?

In the Octave MXE repository the file README.html still mentions Octave 4.4 and not the upcoming version 5.x. (This is also true for the Octave 5.0.90 Windows exe-installer from alpha.gnu.org.)
