Thanks for reporting this bug against Octave. Yes, the audio recording and playback functions currently only support stereo. In fact as far as I can tell Matlab only supports stereo as well. So if we're going to make the number of channels flexible we need to do it in a way that does not break Matlab compatibility. If you are familiar with portaudio feel free to work on this and suggest changes. Marking as postponed since there are no patches attached.

"audioplayer" works great with jackd and stereo signals.
But it does not support more channels.

When trying to play a signal with 4 channels on a (JACK) device with 4 playback channels, nothing is played back on channels 3 and 4.
