I can't seem to reproduce this issue with the latest stable GNUstep in either Window Maker or xfwm4.  Can someone else check if they can reproduce it?

To make it easier to work on this problem I copied over the last issue from the original bug report that remains to be be resolved. This can also be seen in other applications not just GWorkspace:

Situation 1:
 - Click "Info->Info Panel..."
 - The Info panel opens but is not focused (er, key window)
 - Close the info panel without focusing it first
 - GWorkspace makes another application active

This is rather a gui than a back problem.

Okay, I think I'll try that when I have time for it.

Please not that I'm currently running the GNUstep release version. So my system is not on a recent patch level.

You could check out gui as well as back ... I seem to recall matt redoing window level code, though that was more than a month ago.

Moved to category Backend because I'm sure that all this focus problems have appeared after some changes in -back, about one month ago. I'll try to find exactly when.

This seems more a window manager (or backend) issue than a gworkspace one.
GWorkspace is only an application running together with other applications. It doesn't "gives its application focus" to anything...
But we should investigate this problem better because it is true that many focus issues do exist. For example, I have problems switching between GNUstep application windows and xterm windows.
I'm not sure but I think that these problems have appeared after some changes in -back, one or two months ago.

Please see https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?19097 and mark this one as duplicate of it. (I accidentally put the wrong headline on the other bug report.) Sorry for the inconvenience.
