Hi,

I will take care of the license change.

I've approved your project--welcome on board! :-)

You'll receive a mail notification with further instructions shortly.

Also, the licensing information should be changed,
now that there is no more code under zlib license.

But, I don't know how to do that myself.

I applaud your desicion abuout the runtime library licence.

Yes, I have forget to update the status. Soon an administrator will do
a final review and approve the project if all is ok.

I finally decided to license the runtime library under
the GNU GPL as well (it is not a mandatory library anyway)

updated:

Also, the item status doesn't seem to have changed:
in my browser it prints "In Progress" instead of "Need admin"
and "0%" instead of "90%".

You do not need to specify the "see the AUTHORS file..." anywhere, in
README file (With alredy added notices in the file listing) are
enough.

To copyleft or no to copyleft the run time libraryes is up to you, the
hosting requirements do not talk about that. so I think than the
hosting requirement are meet but I can't approve the project. An
administrator will do a final review and approve the project if all is
ok.

In GNU project we prefer freedom to popularity. Enforcing the programs
to be free will give away the propietary software programmers but no
the free software ones, this at some degree a boost to free
software. Maybe even some propietary developers will release their
code under a free licence to be able to use the program (Argile in
this case) this alredy happen with CLISP and GNU Readline. These ideas
are well explained in the RMS's essay "Copyleft: Pragmatic Idealism"
(http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/pragmatic.html). For more information
about the CLIPS case see
http://clisp.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/clisp/clisp/doc/Why-CLISP-is-under-GPL.

I updated again
http://savannah.gnu.org/submissions_uploads/argile-1.0.0.tar.gz

I added copyright and GNU FDL notices at the end of long
documentation files, but not for small documentation files
(they are listed in README anyway)

I added doc/COPYING from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt

I updated AUTHORS and README files

Do I need to specify "(see the AUTHORS file distributed along with this software)" everywhere ?
or is "the Argile authors" sufficient ?
(some files do not have this precision in their copyright notices
as it seemed pedantic)

I also changed the license of the runtime library
from zlib to LGPL rather than GPL because I think that
forcing GPLization of programs written in this language
could scare a lot of programmers away
(it is a new programming language, and no other compiler
for it exist yet).

However, I am open to suggestions.

Yes, they are.

>What wrong would that do if they were copied without restrictions ?

There is no problem if build script can be copied without restrictions
but if you want that you should explicity state it to avoid
confussion.

>Besides, I do not know what license I should specify for these
>documentations files (FDL ?) ...  (note that one of them contains an

Since your documentation files are kinda lenghty I advice you to use
the GNU FDL. Unless you want to use an optional feaature you should
put this notice on the FDL files:

Copyright (C) The Argile authors (See file AUTHORS).

Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document
under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.3 or
any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no
Invariant Sections, no Front-Cover Texts, and no Back-Cover Texts.  A
copy of the license is included in the section entitled "GNU Free
Documentation License".

And you should include the FDL plain text version in the tarball:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.txt, the best place IMO would be
in doc/COPYING.

Remember than you must specify the copyright years, change AUTHORS
file to:

This program has been developed and is Copyrigth (C) HERE THE
COPYRIGHT YEARS by Josselin Chièze <argile@gmail.com>

As some files are Copyright the FSF the README file must be changed:

Unless otherwise stated inside it, the following files are Copyrighted
as free software by the Argile authors (see AUTHORS file distributed
along with this software).  You can redistribute it and/or modify it
under the terms of the GNU General Public License, either version 3 or
(at your option) any later version published by the Free Sofrware
Foundation (see COPYING file for details on the license).

LIST OF FILES OF ARGILE COMPILER

Unless otherwise stated inside it, the following files are Copyrighted
as free software by the Argile authors (see AUTHORS file distributed
along with this software).  You can redistribute it and/or modify it
under the terms of the zlib licence (see argrt/COPYING file for
details on the license).

LIST OF RUN TIME LIBRARY FILES

Unless otherwise stated inside it, the following files are Copyrighted
as free documentation by the Argile authors (see AUTHORS file
distributed along with this software).  You can redistribute it and/or
modify it under the terms of the GNU Free Docuementation Licence, ethier
version 1.3 or at your option any later published by the Free Software
Foundation (see doc/COPYING file for details on the license).

LIST OF DOCUEMTNATION FILES

Consider to put the run time library under the GNU GPL. If your
compiler becomes widely used that would be a boost to free software
(This is not a hosting requirement, only advice).

I re-uploaded
http://savannah.gnu.org/submissions_uploads/argile-1.0.0.tar.gz

I added copyright information in all files,
except for some documentations, but they are listed in README.
If there are still files lacking copyright information, please
specify explicitely which ones, as I have doubts on what needs
to be copyrighted (I cannot copyright aclocal.m4 for example).

Besides, I do not know what license I should specify for these
documentations files (FDL ?) ...
(note that one of them contains an english short
description of some algorithms used in the software)

Also, I wonder if it is important to copyright
build files (Makefile.am , configure.ac) they are not really
part of the software itself. What wrong would that do if they
were copied without restrictions ?

Hi, I'm evaluating the project you submited for approval in GNU
Savannah. When all issues are fixed and it met the hosting
requirements (https://savannah.gnu.org/register/requirements.php) an
administrator will approve the submission.

Add Licence and Copyright information to all your non trivial files,
that may include HTML, plain text documentationand auto generated
files and build scripts.

As your project contains files than can not contain the Copyright and
licencing information inside it you should put a README file
enumerating all those files, it Copyright holder and it licence.

Is the copyright holder referred to in the AUTHORS file, a legal
entity that can be assigned copyright? If not, you need to add the
author(s)' name(s) instead. Check
http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for
more information, and update your files.

Regards
