Hi Rishi -- the new files look good.  I've approved the submission.  Please do change the bug reporting address.

Ordinarily the FSF does not accept copyright assignments for non-GNU packages, but there have been occasional exceptions.  I'll ask rms.

Thanks,
Karl

I have update the copyright/license headers, the manual, NEWS and README to reflect the fork. However I have not yet changed the bug reporting address and left it as bug-inetutils@gnu.org. I plan to change that once Netutils has a bug reporting list of its own.

I was also wondering whether it is possible for a non-GNU program's contributors to assign their copyright to the FSF? If it is possible then it would be easier if Netutils becomes a part of GNU in the future.

The Git tree is now at: git://bombadil.infradead.org/~rishi/netutils.git
(the older one is now a symbolic link)

Hi Rishi,

Before I approve this, can you please change the files so that they don't talk about being part of "GNU Inetutils"?  You can probably do a global replace of "GNU Inetutils" with "Free Netutils" or some such, and explain the fork in the top-level README and NEWS files (which should be updated anyway).  The manual will need adjusting too.

Of course it should still give credit to GNU Inetutils (and the other sources), but it shouldn't claim to be Inetutils.

I know we want to minimize changes in case the distributions converge again, but it's important to make things clear while the fork is present.

Thanks,
Karl
