OK. I changed the license.txt file with this (I could not find any other more comprehensive license), modified the headers of all the source files as well.
I checked the license for H2 and it does not seem I need to do anything as I just have the binary version included in the application (did not modify anything).

I added the new package in attachment.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Thanks a lot for your help,
Matthieu

Hi,

then I think that modified BSD license is your best choice.

Please replace the license.txt with the new license and add proper copyright and license header blocks at the top of every copyrightable file.

You may use the following license template taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BSD_license

Any advice of what kind of license I can choose for my product ? It is not really that important to me what it is. I just want to open this for other people to use it and maybe participate to improve it...
Thanks,
Matthieu

Hi,

Unfortunately, the H2 is dual-licensed under (modified) Mozilla Public License and (modified) Eclipse Public License.  Both of them are incompatible with GNU GPL.

You can workaround this by replacing H2 with some equivalent software which doesn't suffer from such problem.  Another possibility is to choose less restrictive license for your project.

Still planning to use Savannah, yes.
I have been doing some updates since then, but I would need to prepare a proper release package...

Hi,

sorry for delay.

Are you still planning to use Savannah to host your project?  If not, please tell us--this will make us gain some time to review other projects.

Registration Details

  • Name: Hanzi Trainer
  • System Name:  hanzitrainer
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

Description:

A program to practice and learn Chinese characters and vocabulary. It can potentially be expanded to support other language with non-roman characters and need to have both word translations but also character pronunciation.
The database of characters/vocabulary can be saved to a file, the program gives an easy way to enter new words into the database, then the content can be reviewed or the user can be tested against that database.

Other Software Required:

H2 database - http://www.h2database.com/ - modified version of the MPL 1.1 or EPL 1.0
Using Netbeans to develop - http://www.netbeans.org/ - CDDL v1.0 and GPL v2.0

Other Comments:

Still in development. Java should be portable, but there might be some system dependencies to work on (chinese input, fonts...etc...)
