Yes, I'm still interested. I can work through most problems that I'd imagine would rise.

Hi,

I can simply change the project type to non-gnu upon approval. :)

One thing I forgot to mention: the git hosting is currently in testing stage, so you might experience some minor problems (or hopefully might not).

Are you still interested?

The goal of the project registration is to switch to Savannah as my primary hosting.  I will probably be deleting the Sourceforge CGNU site as soon as everything is moved to Savannah.  I did not originally consider the license of the documentation.  You are right, GNU FDL is most appropriate for CGNU documentation.  All CGNU documentation will have an FDL footer.  All build code will be GPL though, as it derives from the GCC executable code.  If GCC maintainers are interested in merging any code I write into mainline I will also be willing to sign over the copyright to the code, when the time comes.

I thought originally that since the project derived directly from GNU code that it was classified as a GNU project.  Sorry for my misunderstanding.  I am perfectly happy being classified as Non-GNU, however I can't seem to find how to switch this CGNU submission to read as Non-GNU.  Any help will be appreciated.

~Robert

Hi Robert,

If I understand correctly, your project is a documentation project + new build files for gcc (the `code').  If so, it might be more appropriate to use GNU FDL for your project.

We can approve your project as non-GNU.  Please consult the following on how to become an official GNU package: http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html

Also, I've noticed that you've setup a SourceForge project.  Please confirm that you are willing to use Savannah as your primary development and hosting resource.

Registration Administration

While this item will be useful to track the registration process, approving or discarding the registration must be done using the specific Group Administration page, accessible only to site administrators, effectively logged as site administrators (superuser):

Registration Details

  • Name: Clean GNU
  • System Name:  cgnu
  • Type: Official GNU software
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

Description:

Building GCC is a painful endeavor. This project aims to Clean GNU (CGNU) by:
   1. Documenting all (inter)dependencies of GCC.
   2. Reimplementing the build system with a more up-to-date makefile builder. (Probably CMake)

What's special is that I'm trying to document GCC in weird and interesting new ways, as well as reimplement the build system in a meaningful way.  More information is available at http://re.mpqx.biz.  I want to register with savannah for the git hosting, as well as possibly being able to get CGNU off of my undependable personal hosting.

Other Software Required:

GCC GPL http://gcc.gnu.org/
Binutils GPL http://www.gnu.org/software/binutils/
Glibc LGPL http://www.gnu.org/software/libc/
CMAKE BSD http://www.cmake.org
