I haven't heard from you for a fairly long time, so I'm closing this task.

You ought to be much more active to maintain a translation team.  If you plan to re-apply in the future, please write to <web-translators@gnu.org>.  The process for establishing a new team is managed via that address; the registration of the Savannah project is just a formality that should happen after all other steps are completed.

As already said, CVS write access will be granted when the project is created.  We would like to be sure that new teams have responsible leaders who understand and agree with our philosophy, can handle tasks properly and in a timely fashion, and have a permanent interest in contributing.  Much to our regret most of the translation teams are in moribund state, so we would like to avoid, as much as possible, creation of new teams that will only exist as stubs.

The way we decide this is very similar to the way GNU maintainers are handled, or the way you would become a core developer or a project leader of a free software project.

Please read the following pages and the ones they link to:

http://www.gnu.org/server/standards/README.translations.html
http://www.gnu.org/server/standards/translations/cvs_savannah.html
http://www.gnu.org/server/standards/translations/priorities.html
http://www.gnu.org/server/standards/translations/details.html

To update to the new style, you need to create/update the following files:

style.kn.css
graphics/topbanner.kn.svg
graphics/topbanner.kn.png
server/header.kn.html
server/banner.kn.html
server/footer.kn.html
server/footer-text.kn.html

The following files are no longer needed:
server/footer-min.html
server/footer-short.html
server/sidebar*

To translate new articles and update new ones, you have to maintain a working copy of the "www" web repository.  Please always use a plain text editor and send the translations as attachments to <web-translators@gnu.org>.

Please also complete the questionnaire at http://www.gnu.org/server/standards/webmaster-quiz.html and send it to <web-translators@gnu.org>.  Please use your own words and do not point to URLs of gnu.org essays as answers.

Thanks!

That is nice to know, but we have to make sure that the prospective Kannada leader can make decision and exercise judgement on his own, without relying on third party.  Are you going to be a member of the future Kannada translation project or you will replace Om as a leader?

Please submit them to <web-translators@gnu.org>, thanks.  We would like to guide a single person through the process of establishing a translation team; giving advice to several people is not feasible.  Could you please discuss this with Omshivaprakash H L?  I gave a few pointers and guidelines when he applied for new Kannada project, and you both don't seem to follow them.

(FYI: It is acceptable more than one person to have CVS write access in the case of large teams with many contributors.  But this is not what we would like to do for brand new teams.)

Thank you for your interest in translating gnu.org essays.

Greetings,

I haven't heard from you for a fairly long time (abt 4 months, I think).  Are you still interested in establishing and maintaining a Kannada translation project?

Yavor,

Thanks for alerting me. I'm taking care of this. As you said I shall use the translated text to educate other people who know only kannada.

IMO this should not classify as priority -- translation of the essays is much more important.  Of course, you are welcome to translate that page, but you should keep the license text intact (in English, that is).  All translations of GNU licenses are unofficial and we don't host them at gnu.org.  See http://www.gnu.org/licenses/translations.html.

FYI the list of the priorities is at http://www.gnu.org/server/standards/translations/priorities.html.
