Hi,

I have approved your project.  You will receive an automated e-mail containing detailed information about the approval.

However, please fix the copyright notices before uploading your code to GNU Savannah.

Regards,

Stephan

OK, I just changed the address inside copyright notice (in each and every possible files) and I added it to all of files, including AUTHORS, NEWS, ChangeLog, etc. Though I still think it's not really necessary for those files to contain Copyright notices.

I uploaded the source code here (http://213.207.236.28/projects/jcal/current.tar.bz2) since I do not have access to khorshid's server via ssh at the moment, your download may take some time.

Thanks in advance,

--Ashkan

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah. While doing so I have noticed a few problems which are described below.

First of all, the address of the FSF has changed, and is now:

51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA  02110-1301  USA

Please update your license notices.

Please update the copy of the license (usually, the 'COPYING' file) in your package as well.

Updated versions of the GPL, LGPL and GFDL can also be found at:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt

You can find some background and a possible migration script at https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=3766

Secondly, in order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GNU GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long.

In addition, if you haven't already, please include a copy of the plain text version of the GPL, available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt, into a file named "COPYING".

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.

If some of your files cannot carry such notices (e.g. binary files), then you can add a README file in the same directory containing the copyright and license notices. Check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for further information.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed.  To learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code, for example, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.

Also, please note that this is not the GNU Evaluation. This is the Savannah evaluation, to check whether your project complies with the Savannah hosting rules (a subset of the GNU Evaluation policies), and get a place to host your project.
If you do not want to host your project here, but want to have your project evaluated by the GNU Eval team, then you only need to write to gnueval-input@gnu.org.

Can you clarify this point?

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project.  Upon review, we will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

To help us better keep track of your registration, please use the tracker's web interface following the link below. Do not reply directly, the registration process is not driven by e-mail, and we will not receive such replies.

Regards,

Stephan

Registration Details

  • Name: Jalali Calendar Library
  • System Name:  jcal
  • Type: Official GNU software
  • License: GNU General Public License V2 or later

Description:

Jalali Calendar or Persian Calendar, library and a Unix-cal like interface to Jalali-Calendar library. Useful to bring Jalali support to GNU platforms, hence it set itself up as a shared library, other programs can be dynamically linked to it or open it as a shared library and use it's functions to import Jalali Calendar support to their interface.
It's written in C (no _cplus_plus code has used), and it's currently on version 0.1.0(unstable) which can be download from my personal Website on the net. (http://213.207.236.28/projects/jcal/cal-0.1.0.tar.gz) or from project's mirror:
http://khorshid.ut.ac.ir/~as.ghassemi/jcal/cal-0.1.0.tar.gz (preferred download link.)

Due to the fact that Jalali Calendar is much more precise than Gregorian (Documented here: http://www.tondering.dk/claus/cal/node7.html) engine requires lot more work to be completed since the algorithm used in here is independent of Gregorian (which makes Jalali one to get wrong answers when converting a Gregorian time to Jalali or vice-versa) it's still unstable but good enough. (tried to check it with equivalent non-FreeSoftware program and it works for at least 1M years! but still not enough.)

Actually, I'm trying to release a FreeSoftware program along with a Free (as in freedom) algorithm which does not exist at the moment.

Code seem to work good at the moment, it has a configure script, Man page, etc. but requires a lot of optimization and work.
