Thank you, approving.

I think it makes sense to mention in png-related READMEs where in the tarball their sources are located.

Thank you. To follow your suggestion of keeping the sources in the tarball, I have included the SVG files in a new directory called media_src.

Although I have inserted valid copyright and license notices in the metadata section of each SVG file, I have also included a README.txt in the directory with the copyright and license notice for all of them to make clear they are all under GPLv3+.

Therefore, I'm going to enclose an updated tar.gz named gedalecin_submit3.

Thanks again.

I'd suggest keeping the sources in the tarball, this would make your redistributors' job much easier.

If you don't, under the GPL they'll have to either add the sources themselves or to provide a written offer valid for at least three years &c. to give them on request. Your tarball wouldn't be redistributable as is (in particular, Savannah mirrors wouldn't have a permission to distribute it).

Concerning the source files (svg images), I'm thinking about uploading them to Wikimedia or a similar media repository. This way I make files available to people looking for images (not only for specific software) and save space in tarball. However, I don't know if this option is the best, so I would like your advice.

Thank you.

Thank you!

The last question: where are the source files for those images?

To avoid the license problems with images, I have replace them with new ones made by myself under the GPLv3+. Now, all the files in tarball are under the same license (GPLv3+).

I have also checked again whether all files have their valid copyright and license notice. It seems to be all right.

Finally, I'm going to attach a new tar.gz with all the changes. The name is gedalecin_submit2.

Thanks

Thank you; please check other files as well (I haven't yet).

> My intention was to redistribute them with the licenses specified in the README.txt file in imgs/ have checked the compatibility of these licenses with GPLv3+ in https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.en.html, and I have found a little problem with GPLv2+, so I can modified the license to GPLv3+ in README.txt.

I'd like to clarify two points:

  • why every actual license may be switched to the GPLv3+
  • what requirements of the GPLv3 apply to those files, and how your tarball fulfills them

Sorry for the lacking notice of save/gedalecin.db. I will place the notice in the README.txt file of the same directory.

Concerning the media files, I'm not sure what you mean by elaborating what specific options I use. My intention was to redistribute them with the licenses specified in the README.txt file in imgs/ I have checked the compatibility of these licenses with GPLv3+ in https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.en.html, and I have found a little problem with GPLv2+, so I can modified the license to GPLv3+ in README.txt.

About GPL notice, you are right. It does contain the notices.

So, please, confirm me if the proposed changes are what you required me, or you mean something different. Once confirmed I will attached a mew tar.gz with the changes.

Thank you.

Thank you; however, save/gedalecin.db still seems to lack notices.

Also, I'd like to realize how you follow the licenses
of files in imgs/: some of them are under GPLv2+, other
under CC BY 3.0, some use LGPLv2.1+. Could you elaborate
what specific options of those licenses you use in order
to distribute the files in your package?

> The only file without it is COPYING.txt that contains GNU GPL text.

Why, the GPL does contain the notices:

> Copyright (C) 2007 Free Software Foundation, Inc. <http://fsf.org/>
> Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copies
> of this license document, but changing it is not allowed.

I've attached a new tar.gz with required changes. Although it may be not necessary, I have also inserted the copyright notice in .htacces and notice.htm. The only file without it is COPYING.txt that contains GNU GPL text. Hope it is now OK. Thanks.

Thank you for submitting your package!

All files should have valid copyright and license notices; INSTALL.txt and README.txt haven't.

When format doesn't allow comments (like images), the notices should be written in the README file in the same directory.

Could you fix that?
