Since some libraries like Astropy or STScI pipelines use the BSD license, they won't be able to use Gnuastro. One option is to change the license to LGPL. But there are some major projects that are GPL (for example LSST), also the arguments in the link below are strong and support the idea of keeping the GPL License for the libraries.
