Thank you very much :-)

I'll try and manually import the most important issues by hand.

Best regards

Hi Aljoscha - sorry for stepping in, but it turns out (you couldn't have been expected to know this) that liberty-eiffel is actually the new GNU Eiffel package, replacing the previous smarteiffel.  We have been corresponding with Cyril and the other developers.

As such, it's not required to use Savannah for development -- although, Eiffel folks, we do hope you will!

So I changed the type to "Official GNU Software" and approved it.  Cyril, the cron jobs should have done their thing within an hour or so and all the features available.

Regarding importing of the tracker issues: good question.  I am unfortunately not aware of any way to do a mass import into a savannah tracker, and I doubt the schemas would match up perfectly, so it's probably not "trivial" to write (nothing is trivial when it comes to savannah coding anyway :().  I'll poke around a little and write you again, though.

Thanks to all,
Karl

  • About developing on Savannah:

There is no reason not to migrate to Savannah.

We are currently hosted by Github. Do we have to recreate all issues or can they be imported somehow?

  • About the other dependencies:

OK, I was a bit sloppy, sorry. The current list of optional dependencies is:

cairo, postgresql, sqlite, gda, libffi, gtk[1-3], gio, glib, gobject, gobject-introspection, GNU scientific library, llvm, pango, GNU readline, libxml2 (GNOME's), zmq.

Some may be obsolete but they are still in the code.

Best regards,

Cyril

Hi,

thanks for submitting your project to Savannah! I'm evaluating your submission and have the following questions.

First, are you planning to move development to Savannah? I ask this because we exepect that development happens primarly in Savannah. I can start the evaluation process only, if you plan to move.

My second question is, if you plan to move, what are the other dependencies? You wrote under "Other Software Required" that there is more software. Please let us know which.

Best regards.

Registration Details

  • Name: Liberty Eiffel
  • System Name:  liberty-eiffel
  • Type: non-GNU software and documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later (The core compiler and tools use the GNU v2+ license.

The core libraries use the BSD license.

The wrappers use the same license as the wrapped libraries.)

Description:

Liberty Eiffel -- now the GNU Eiffel Compiler -- is a free Eiffel compiler started from the SmartEiffel code base. Its goal is to retain from SmartEiffel its rigour; but not its rigidity.

Think of Liberty as SmartEiffel down from its ivory tower.

More: http://www.liberty-eiffel.org

Other Software Required:

The only required dependencies are:
- a modern C compiler, such as gcc
- a libc, such as glibc

Other dependencies are optional: mostly wrapped packages:
- glib, gobject, gtk, cairo, pango
- GNU readline
- libffi
- zmq
- and more

Other Comments:

SmartEiffel used to support other well known non-free OSes.

Although that support was not removed, we don't make any effort to keep it up-to-date (we all hack on free OSes).

People are welcome to update that support.
