Funny, had this task floating around for months, thinking that an answer is pending, only to recognize that the project is already activated! Closing this task then.

I'm including Steve's message here, since he sent it directly to the ML:

> Hi Karl & al.
> The nongnu approach might be reasonable. (But the request is not mine!)
> My understanding is, the target project is time-constrained, and we have a lot to do as it is already.
> All that is needed is an official home for the sources.
> Cheers!

I'm approving it as non-GNU then.

Hi Aljoscha - as you wrote, the evaluation process is http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html. Steve's endorsement is certainly welcome, but does not automatically make this a GNU package. Only rms can dub new GNU packages (at the end of the evaluation process).

The simplest thing here would be to treat this as nongnu for now; and if the author wishes it to be considered for GNU, he can submit it for evaluation in the normal way, per that web page.

I'm not too familiar with the evaluation process for official GNU software. Does it mean that you (Steve) endorse the project, that it is already accepted as GNU software? If so, I will activate it.

However, the issue with the license text remains: Please include the copy of the license before uploading anything to Savannah, Ushau.

As for the license exception you should state this in a README file. Before activating the project, I can change the license to GPL v3+.

Best regards.

I'm the admin of GNU FreeFont.

I fully endorse this project. In fact, I helped prepare its files.

The license must not be GPL 2, but rather GPL 3 or better with the special font exception, as that of GNU FreeFont:

One more thing: You chose to submit this project as “Offical GNU Software”. Have you completed the evaluation process? Detailed information can be found here:

This process is done separately from Savannah evaluation and must be completed successfully before I can approve your project. I could still approve it as “non-GNU software” though.

Best regards.

thanks for submitting your project to Savannah!

I'm evaluating your submission and found that you don't include a copy of the license in your distribution. Please include a verbatim copy of the GNU GPL 2 in your distribution. You can find the license text here: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-2.0.txt

Also, you should make clear that your project is licensed under GNU GPL v2 or later (with an emphasis on the “or later”). Since you can't add license notices to the font files (I guess), please do this in a file called README. You should add a copyright notice in there as well.

Please update your distribution and upload a new archive file on the bottom of the task page.

Best regards.
