Hello,

I'm reviewing old tasks in Savannah.
Are you still interested in the submission of GNU Code?

If within two weeks I still do not get a reply, I will close this submission request.

Hi Jacob - thanks much for the submission.  However, if you want it to be an official GNU package, as the fields+name indicate, please see http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html, there's a separate process from savannah for that.  If you don't want it to be looked at for GNU (at least for now), we (savannah folk) can evaluate it for nongnu ... if the project name is changed.

Anyway, aside from that administrivia, it certainly sounds like an interesting idea.  What rms will think about it (he makes the final decision on things being added to GNU), I couldn't begin to guess, though.

Thanks for your careful approach to the licensing.  I didn't actually look at the tarball yet, but even just from your description it sounds way better than average :).

Best,

Registration Details

  • Name: GNU Code
  • System Name:  gnucode
  • Type: Official GNU software
  • License: GNU General Public License v3 or later

Description:

GnuCode is an attempt to create an IDE that does not introduce
separate project files, but builds upon the GNU autotools files
as project files. Thus, it is intended to integrate well with
GNU autotools, especially making it easier for beginners, but
also comfortable for professionalists to develop for the GNU OS.

Currently, most GNU developers usually use GNU emacs for development.
Gnucode does not try to replace GNU emacs, but instead tries to
offer a more modern approach with integrated features, like
graphical debugging, class views and probably also graphical
programming.

As it forms a thin layer around GNU autotools, it does not make
developers dependent on the IDE. It does not introduce any
additional files to a project, so it will always be possible
to drop GnuCode if it is no sufficient anymore.

As of now, the features are very basic. I only put together
sources from other free software projects licensed under the
terms of the GPLv3 and brought them in shape.

Other Comments:

I carefully checked and tried to give all files license headers. However, I could not assign license headers to .ui and .qrc XML files, as the tools you edit them with remove comments once you save the file again. As a substitution, I added a sentence to the README stating that these are distributed under the terms of the GPLv3, too.
