The function trackers_data_handle_update uses stripslashes where it is not necessary. Attached is the patch that fixes it.

I've encountered the same bug. Note that a double backslash somewhere in a bug report results in a single backslash in the bug update email whereas a single backslash is removed entirely. Backslashes in the email's subject line, however, are not affected by this. Also a sequence like "\n" doesn't result in a line break in the email but rather in an "n" without a leading backslash.

Additionally, what does seem to happen whenever the status flags of a bug are changed (priority, status, dependencies, item group, etc.) is that the update email also claims that the bug's summary has been changed to one without backslashes when it actually wasn't modified.

As for Vincent's report, I guess you meant that the two characters in the email were back_quote_ and simple-quote, not back_slash_ and simple-quote, right?

Hello,

I posted https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?35395, then in comment #9, at the end of paragraph starting with "So, to recap, I am using a bash script to launch an MSWindows" I use `\' (which is the sequence of 3 characters: backquote, backslash, simple-quote).

But in the confirmation email the backslash was removed and there was only two characters: backslash, simple-quote.
