Hi Tomasz,

thanks! The four C files and the po files are fixed now.

I have removed the license comments from all my SVG files though, because gdk-pixbuf fails to detect them as SVG, when a GPL header is included.  See https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=663611 for details.  Instead, I only place LICENSE files in the directories containing them.

Cheers,
Guido

Hi Guido!

Sorry for delay. There's minor problem with your project, some non-libsvg files contain LGPL header:
gibbon-database.c
gibbon-database.h
gibbon-reliability-renderer.c
gibbon-reliability-renderer.h

Also, please insert proper GPL headers in *.po files.

Anyway, I'm approving your project, welcome on the board! :)

Hi Tomasz,

I have uploaded a new snapshot to http://gibbon.guido-flohr.net/gibbon/download/source/gibbon-2011-11-27.tar.gz.  I think that all your suggestions are implemented in that version.

The SVG files also bear a copyright notice in the source.

Cheers,
Guido

Well, I don't have example at hand. You must simply create in each folder that contains artwork file called README or LICENSE or something like that. In this file you must put GPL copyright notice similar to one that you are using in source files.

Example:

These file are part of Gibbon.

Gibbon is free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify
it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by
the Free Software Foundation, either version 3 of the License, or

Hi Tomasz,

1: Currently libgsgf is under GPL.  Only gsgf-result.c and gsgf-result.h were unintentionally licensed according to LPGL.  That is fixed now in git.

libsvg and libsvg-cairo are not my work; I have only made minor changes and bugfixes.  They were originally LGPL v2.  I have changed that to LGPL v3.

In other words: Gibbon is basically GPL.  If somebody wants to use libgsgf, and that would require a re-licensing of libgsgf to LPGL, I am willing to do so.  Libsvg and libsvg-cairo were LPGL v2 and are now LPGL v3 inside Gibbon.

2. COPYING is now included in git but not included in the tarball generated by “make dist”. Autoproblem, my todo.

3. Can you point me to an example package that handles artwork correctly?

Thanks!
Guido

Hi Guido!

There are two problems:

1. Some files are under GPL while others under LGPL, as I have understand you are intending to eventually release part of gibbon independently as a standalone library libgsgf. To make it more clear I recommend to change in LGPL files "This file is part of gibbon." to "This file is part of libgsgf".

2. There is no COPYING file. GPL and LGPL licenses require that there must be COPYING file containing full text of GPLv3 license. It can be found here: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.txt

3. Media files, like pixmaps also needs license. You need to create text file with copyright notice in every folder that contains media files.

Hi, Tomasz,

Sorry, I get no error message while uploading but the file does not show up.

Can you please download it from here: gibbon.guido-flohr.net/gibbon/download/source/gibbon-20111125.tar.gz

A current snapshot is attached.

One of the tests currently segfaults.  That is a problem with the test itself.

The documentation is still piecemeal.

Hello Guido!

Sorry for delay in processing your submission, we're short of volunteers. Could you do me a favour? Please tar+gzip tarball and upload it here. I don't have git in my system.

Registration Details

  • Name: Gibbon
  • System Name:  gibbon
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v3 or later (Gibbon contains libgsgf, a library used for parsing and writing SGF (Smart Game Format) files.  The format is used by GNU backgammon.  Libgsgf is licensed under the LGPL and will eventually be released as an independent package.)

Description:

Gibbon is a client program for playing backgammon online on FIBS (First Internet Backgammmon Server).  It uses the Gimp Toolkit (Gtk) and is written in C.

The project homepage is currently http://gibbon.guido-flohr.net/. Code metrics etc. are available at https://www.ohloh.net/p/gibbon2.

Gibbon still has a lot of missing features but can be used already for playing and chatting with other players on FIBS.

It is the only open-source client for FIBS under active development.
