Hi Atom,

I triggered the email, you should have got it now.

I don't think the GNU project will object to a binding between two of its packages because it is not written in C.

Since the copyright notice is fine, I am closing this task. Cool name, by the way :D

Have fun with the project!

Alex.

BTW, about how long does it take to receive the auto-generated approval email that Mario referred to?  I still haven't gotten it from what I can tell (combed through the spam mail, too.)

I've never really given becoming a GNU project a lot of thought since I don't generally develop in C (which is pretty prominent in the GNU Coding Standards), but since this project is very closely tied to two prominent GNU packages, perhaps I will submit it eventually.  If I ever feel it's good enough, that is.

Hi Atom -- in general, the FSF only accepts copyright for official GNU packages.  I doubt the case here would be an exception.

However, based (only) on looking at your submission here, I don't see any insuperable problems with garble becoming GNU, if you wish to do that at any point.  http://gnu.org/help/evaluation.html explains.

Best,
karl

Yes, I am Atom X.  This is my legal name.

If and when GARBLE begins to gain outside help, or if it becomes widely used, I plan on applying for copyright assignment to the FSF.  While I have no plans for applying for GNU project status or anything like that, since this project is dependent on, and closely tied to, two projects where the copyright is held by the FSF, it seems appropriate to me that they be assigned the copyright holders of GARBLE as well.  I also know that they are better equipped than I am to defend the licensing, and in turn, the freedom of this software.

Hello.

Thanks for your understanding.

I have approved this project.  You will receive an auto-generated
email containing detailed information about the approval.

Is the copyright holder referred to in the copyright notices (Atom X),
a legal entity that can be assigned copyright? If not, you need to add
the author(s)' name(s) instead.  Check
http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for
more information.

Please update your files before uploading them to GNU Savannah and let
us know when it's done so we can close this task.

Regards.

It just occurred to me that the CC-BY-SA license can have an international jurisdiction.  If this would make GARBLE more attractive for hosting, I would gladly license non-software, non-documentation materials under the international rather than USA version.

Again, all software will be licensed under the GNU GPLv3 or later, and all documentation and other informative materials will be licensed under the GNU FDL.
