Hi,

> Can one of you please tell me how to cancel my project submission?

Just telling us is enough, really. Mario, I have gone ahead and deleted the project, hope you don't mind.

> I don't want it published on savannah any more!

I have canceled your submission. Sorry you don't want to host your project on Savannah any more. If you ever change your mind just resubmit your project. Thanks!

Hello.

> Can one of you please tell me how to cancel my project submission?

Post your deletion request in this item, which tracks the registration
process of the project in question.

> I don't want it published on savannah any more!

Thanks for telling us, we will delete the submission after you confirm
it in the tracker.

Please bear in mind it's expensive for us to review the sent projects.
We aim to encourage and check good licensing practices and hence we
review the project and check for possible issues.  If everythink is ok
and the project meets our requirements and advice it gets approved, else
we ask the maintainer to fix these.  That's a tedious and time-demanding
task.  We are volunteers and have limited time to divide between several
pending projects [1].

When you submit and later request cancellation of a project means you
made one volunteer and the savannah team, as a whole, to waste part of
his time and effort on it, instead of using these in a project who is
really going to appreciate or at least, consider these suggestions.

Our requirements and advices are not arbitrary.  These are for the sake
of the free software users in overall.  For example, we ask you to put
valid Copyright notices and the GPL header on every Copyrightable file
(Or in the README in case of files which can't contain it inside) so the
users can know for sure these files are free software, and they are free
to use, modify, study and re-distribute them.  A properly licensed file
can be swiftly copied between projects, for instance.  In contrast if
some legal information is missing we (Someone) can't assume it.

I ask you to help us with the pending projects if that's possible.
There is more information about how you can help Savannah in
http://savannah.gnu.org/maintenance/HowToBecomeASavannahHacker.

FWIW, "all rights reserved" is legally null these years.  It shouldn't be a requirement for sv hosting to remove it, although (as you say) it adds nothing and is confusing.

best,
k

Hello.

I noticed you attached the new "tarball" (Again a tar of zip archives)
to this item, but the problems pointed out in the previous message
hasn't be solved properly as suggested in the previous message or in a
equivalent manner.

The Copyright notice is erroneous:

"the authors" is very vague term.  It don't states who is the author
and hence, who is the copyright holder.  You should know exactly who
is the Copyright holder for the files you distribute or are
responsible for.  If you don't, please investigate.

"since 2010" is wrong.  N years later your notice will be equivalent
to "2010, 2011, ..., 2010+N", that's is incorrect and inaccurate.  Not
every years should be listed on the Copyright notice, unless you
continuously and indefinitely made non-trivial modifications
(Something that can't be asserted).  Please read and change your
Copyright notices according to
http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html.

"All rights reserved" is confussing and adds nothing.  You alredy give
permission to use and copy under the GNU GPL with the license notice
below, and we appreciate that.

Translation files still lack Copyright & licensing information.

We alredy talked about all these issues in the previous message.
Please don't hesitate to ask if there is some point you don't
understand or are unsure about, this way you can get informed and the
project will get approved faster than by trial and error, and will
save us lot of valuable time.

License notice references the GNU GPL 3 and later versions but you
selected the GNU GPL 2 and later in the license field.  I will
correspondingly change the field to GNU GPL 3+, let me know if this is
what you meant or not.

Regards.

Hi.

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in GNU Savannah.
You can reach the rest Savannah hackers (Staff) in this list:
http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/savannah-hackers-public.

I noticed some issues with the tarball you submited:

Some files ("__terp__.py") carry only the Copyright notice but lack
licensing information.

If possible, please remove the "All rights reserved" statement.  It's
unnecessary and confusing.

The tarball is a set of zip archives.  I'ts customary to put the all
files inside a top directory before tar-ing'em instead of using zip
archives.  Double compression/archiving generally is just troublesome
and won't further reduce the size.  This is not a requirement at all
but is adviced to avoid the users the need to create a new directory
before unpack the tarball.

Also please note Savannah's mission is to host free software projects,
and we want the public to think of them as free software projects.
It's not relevant for us whether a license has been "OSI Approved",
but whether it free as in freedom.  Please see
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html and
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.html for
more information about the issue.  There is a classified list of some
free licenses in http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the
GNU GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy
statements at the beginning of every copyrightable file, usually any
file more than 10 lines long.
In addition, if you haven't already, please include a copy of the
plain text version of the GPL, available from
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt, into a file named "COPYING".
For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.
If some of your files cannot carry such notices (e.g. binary files),
then you can add a README file in the same directory containing the
copyright and license notices. Check
http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for
further information.
The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed.  To learn
why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code,
for example, see
httpp://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Please fix this issues and provide a updated tarball.  You can ethier
attach it to the tracker or use an external hosting and provide a
direct download URL.

Regards
