Registration Details

  • Name: Bino
  • System Name:  bino
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v3 or later

Description:

Bino plays stereoscopic videos, also known as 3D videos.
Such videos have separate views for the left and right eye and thus allow depth perception through stereopsis.

Bino can read such videos in a variety of input formats (left and right view side by side, separate files, ...) and display them in several different output modes (OpenGL quad buffered stereo, anaglyph glasses, and formats used by various stereoscopic monitors).

Bino uses ffmpeg to decode video and audio files, OpenAL to play the audio streams, and OpenGL to display the video. It is written in C++.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the first stereoscopic video player for GNU/Linux.

Other Software Required:

ffmpeg: license LGPLv2.1+, http://ffmpeg.org/

freealut: license LGPLv2, http://openal.org/downloads.html

OpenAL Soft: license LGPLv2+, http://kcat.strangesoft.net/openal.html

glew: license BSD and GPLv2+ (in Debian packaged version), http://glew.sf.net/

freeglut: license MIT/X11, http://freeglut.sourceforge.net/

OpenGL implementation Mesa: license mostly MIT/X11, http://www.mesa3d.org/

Other Comments:

Note that hardware accelerated OpenGL is required. But this does not mean that proprietary drivers are required!

The latest Linux kernel + Mesa + X.org versions in combination with many Intel, Nvidia and AMD graphics cards should work fine.
