>However, I feel more and more unsure, if Savannah is the right place
>for my plugin. In Savannah there is no single JQuery project yet and
>there are only very few JavaScript projects.

I don't see a problem, what is the issue if there are many or few
project in savannah of a specific programmming language?.

>Also I think most projects in Savannah are more about certain
>functions while my project is more about a certain look of a
>function.

I don't understand at all what you mean by "about certain functions"
and "about a certain look of function", but anyway, the other projects
in savannah don't affects you, nor any other mantainer, or do they?

Please response use the tracker, because is the designated mean for
this, and enable us to see all your responses on the same site
(https://savannah.gnu.org/task/?10183).  Remember to avoid (At least
inside savannah) calling Linux as an OS, Linux is the kernel often
used with GNU operating system, instead of Hurd, we call that mix the
GNU/Linux operating system.

The choice of what site use to host your project is up to you,
savannah was created to offer a site to those who concerns of freedom,
see http://savannah.gnu.org/maintenance/WhyChooseSavannah.

Please tell us if you want to cancell the project submission or
contninue.

Karl: I mean Internet Explorer or Opera, they are widespread and they
can handle a superset of the standard, just as firefox or other
browser.  It is, things like <p>paragraphp</p> without <html> nor
<body>, and so, but not all browsers will implement the same standard
superset.

Therefore, if the script run on a particular propietary browser may
not run on another different free or propietary browser.  By
developing the script on a free browser it is sure that will run on a
free browser, at least the one used to develop the script.

>I wasn't completely sure if gnu savannah is the right place to
>develop and "promote" my JQuery script as I couldn't find any other
>JQuery scripts in savannah. As I like open source and gnu more than
>other platforms I decided to try it anyway - but what do you think?

GNU project aim to a fully free enviroment, In GNU we don't support
open source but instead free software, please read
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/why-free.html.

It is a requirement the here hosted software call itself free, and
that they run well on fully free platforms, is on the hosting
requirements: https://savannah.gnu.org/register/requirements.php.

For this, this means you should test all features of your script works
on a free browser, you may make it work on propietary browsers if you
want, but if you implement a feature for a propietary browser, it must
work on a free one, too.

Do you agree with the above?

>I'm also fine with putting my script in a folder although it's only
>one file so it's hard to loose it ;-)

Well, they are two, hehe ;), licensed must be included in the tarball.
Is good to have they in a direcotory because when decompressing the
tarball you get one direcotry, with the name of the program, , but to
take or not the sugesstion is up to you, as the developer.

Please response using the tracker http://savannah.gnu.org/task/?10183,
not email, thanks.

What are these widespread browsers running on GNU/Linux with proprietary JavaScript extensions, and what are the extensions?  I was not aware of this.

Thanks,
k

Karl: Unhopefully there are some widespread propietary GNU/Linux
browsers with propietary JavaScript extensions.

I suppose you and rest savannah hackers will agree with me in we don't
want javascript to work only with propietary browsers, so I ask what I
ask the platform used to develop it, to determine if it is free.

Mario -- I don't believe a free JavaScript implementation is an issue.  The common JavaScript implementations in Firefox and other browsers are free.

I.e., JavaScript is fine.  Java is the one that still needs to be checked.  The two languages are quite different, despite the names.

Hi.

Do you deveop or a least test the library on a free JavaScript
implementation?.

Also, please if possible put the files inside a directory in the
tarball. Is not mandatory but is a de facto standard and makes life
easy to users. If files are in root of tarball one must create an
directory, move the tarball and uncompress it instead of only unpack
the tarball directly.

Regards

Registration Details

  • Name: AstonishInputs (JQuery)
  • System Name:  astonishinputs
  • Type: Official GNU software
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

Description:

AstonishInputs is a JavaScript/JQuery-Plugin that makes standard XHTML input fields (and labels) both: more space saving and more appealing.

Therefore the inputs label is placed just inside the input by default. When the input is about to get used, it gently moves down, leaving the label on it's place.

Therefore the label just claims its own space, when the input is used. By default input and label are as compact as possible.

There is also an option to move the label up a bit when the input-field is used. When active, this alternative is even more space saving and pleasant.

A declared gain of this plugin is not only to take care of the easy case where input-field and label are just side by side, but also to deal with more complex situations. The plugin provides a number of options for manual adaptions.
