No longer a bug

Affected bash version was not specified, this is no longer true (if it was true back then), for the lastest version of the manual:

When the == and != operators are used, the string to the right of the operator is considered a pattern and matched
according to the rules described below under Pattern Matching, as if the extglob shell option were enabled.

The documentation of the == comparison operator within
[[ does not mention that pattern evaluation is performed.

Example:

$ [[ aaa == a* ]] && echo true
true

$ [[ aaa == "a*" ]] && echo true

Also applies to !=
