Thanks, I've fixed this. It turns out that Savannah is using its own template system, svweb, based on gitweb, and it was inconsistent with the newer version of Mercurial, which has stricter parsing rules. Short version: the {'s in javascript have to be escaped because the template system uses all {} to insert Python variables.

For example, http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/graph returns HTTP 500. Replace "octave" with other Mercurial repositories listed at http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/ and the result appears to be the same (I checked 4 or 5).

Not sure what category to mark this ticket as - maybe some more categories should be added?
