Yes, don't see the clisp jobs listed under 'www.gnu.org portion' section 'contributors wanted' list.

Thanks for looking into the CLISP issue.

Can't see the changes(due to tweaking), but i assume it suggests the job creator not to create hidden jobs.

btw, the number besides 'www.gnu.org portion' on page 'https://savannah.gnu.org/people/' is still 4, even though the number of jobs on page 'https://savannah.gnu.org/people/?type_id=3' is 2.
I checked for a few others, there seems to be similar mismatch.

Sam replied saying it was ok to delete the jobs, so I did.
No solution for the underlying issue, but at least they won't show up any more.

(I also tweaked the wording on editjob.txt slightly.)

Thanks for resending that to test the list archiving, Shailesh.  Unfortunately, this time it came through fine. https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/savannah-hackers/2011-08/msg00139.html

So the problem of messages in general getting lost in the archives remains; I don't know if it only happened for a while or if it's ongoing.  That will take substantial investigation :(.

As for the problem in this ticket ... I wrote to Sam (and Bruno).  Sam does not want to make the project public because he thinks people will then think clisp is entirely hosted on savannah.  I asked him if I could therefore delete the jobs.  No answer as yet.  This niglet will just have to remain ...

In April, I had approached one of the project maintainers (& cced michael) about this issue, but neither the group has been made public, nor the jobs.

Also, i had brought to notice about it on www-discuss, since it being in the category of 'http://www.gnu.org portion'. But, it was concluded there that its not a problem. I agree its okay that its actively maintained on sf; But if it does have a project registered on savannah in its name, it should be accessible.

Thank-you for stating that a GNU package should not be private.

Best approach would be to incorporate it in the system.

To overcome above problem i would suggest
- When category is set to "Official GNU software" or "http://www.gnu.org portion" or "http://www.gnu.org translation team", Then disable 'private' feature.

Regarding the issue of private jobs: (assuming project & jobs can be marked public/private independent of each other)
- If Job is private,
Then exclude job from listing
- If Job is public && Project page is private,
Then some contact must be provided by maintainer where a potential contributor can contact as the project page is inaccessible.

And, corresponding alert/inline messages can be shown to maintainer,i.e, while setting project category, while setting project/job as private.

Hi Shailesh,

Regarding the clisp project specifically, I wrote the maintainers too.  Hopefully either the project will be made public or the jobs deleted soon.

Regarding the maintainers guide, good idea.  I will do that.

Regarding excluding private jobs from the job listing, and/or any other development work (e.g., making jobs public, regardless), I can agree in principle but in reality there are so few people working on the savannah back-end (namely, one -- Michael), and thus time is in such short supply, that something merely not-quite-optimal like this has to take a back seat for the foreseeable future to other problems that are actually preventing people from getting their work done.  So I'm leaving this open but with lower priority.

Thanks,
Karl

1. Thinking over it again, disabling private feature doesn't seem to be proper. Instead i think it would be better to mention at http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/maintain.html to keep the project accessible & to avoid private feature.

2. The other thing, i.e, Exclusion of private jobs from listing does seem proper, as the maintainer does not want to advertise the job.

Hi Shailesh,

1. you're right that it's useless for the jobs feature to show "private" jobs.

2. but it's also useless to create those jobs in the first place.  the project maintainer needs to be educated (either make the job/project public, or delete the jobs).  Thus, savannah's showing of the jobs helps to expose this problem in the project.

3. Being a GNU package, CLISP should not be private.

Do you think the job listing feature needs any changes?.
Currently, jobs created by private groups are listed. But, neither the job details can be viewed, nor the group page.

I have emailed Sam Steingold and CCed it to you.

I think it's worth emailing the maintainers and asking them why it is a private project on Savannah.

If it's unintentional we can change it.

I see, so the jobs will be listed, yet cannot be viewed. Maybe the contributor-list generating query could ignore the jobs coming from private projects.

No, i do not know.

I cannot view its home page, so i cannot tell about status of savannah project admins.
However, Bruno Haible,Jörg Höhle & Sam Steingold are maintaining it on sourceforge.

Here are some links:

Hi,

Apparently clisp is set as a "private" project in Savannah.  That basically means you cannot view any part of it unless you are a member of the project.

Is there any reason that you know of why it's set that way?

Further, are any of the current project admins active for the clisp web project?

I am trying to view the jobs listed for CLISP.

https://savannah.gnu.org/people/viewjob.php?group_id=256&job_id=129

https://savannah.gnu.org/people/viewjob.php?group_id=256&job_id=130

However, i am getting 'permission denied' message on both.

Also, the same message appears for its savannah project homepage https://savannah.gnu.org/projects/clisp/

How do i view the job?
