Cool. Glad it works.

Hi, Sylvain!

The first of two things gave a bit different but still deplorable result, which manifested itself in the log by the line:

> cvs [ls aborted]: received interrupt signal

But when I combined both things (:ssh: and /web/fsfe) in one try... a miracle happened =) I entered the CVS server. It was a success. =)

Now it’s up to me to make friends with the application.

Thank you so much for your help, Sylvain. It’s a really incredible feeling to get things right after all attempts. However, I do reserve the right to ask you for advice on similar matters in future. =)

Best wishes, Oleg.

Hi,

(sorry for the delay, I was away or easter then very busy)

There are 2 things to try:
- use :ssh: instead of :ext:, because I'm not sure what tortoisecvs uses for "ext"
- use /web/fsfe instead of /cvsroot/fsfe, because fsfe doesn't have a source repository

Cheers.

Unfortunately, they are completely the same, as far as I can judge.

Hi,

Using "freedink" is not a good idea, because it moved to Git. I provided the screenshot as an example. Please provide a screenshot with what you try to do with FSFE.

If you need ViewVC, it is available at http://cvs.sv.gnu.org/viewvc/

Hi,

I should’ve thought of this way of presenting the problem =)

I attached screenshots of the configuration, of a log and of a warning message.

As I said I created the password with Puttygen.exe and loaded it into Pageant.exe. Both of these applications came with Tortoise.

Hi,

Can you attach a screenshot of your configuration? For example something similar to this: http://cvs.sv.gnu.org/viewvc/freedink.moved2git/doc/tortoise-dev.png?revision=1.1&root=freedink&view=markup

This way I'll be able to see if there's any configuration mistake.

From the logs it looks like you used "fsfe co" (with a space) instead of "fsfe" somewhere, probably in the checkout module name.

Hi,

You’re right, I’m behind a firewall, even two firewalls and NAT in addition =)

Nevertheless, TortoiseCVS-1.10.4 easily connects to its own CVS server. That’s what it writes in a log

> In E:\ Folder1\Folder2\ Folder3: "C:\Program Files\CVSNT\cvs.exe" -z3 checkout –P
> TortoiseCVS
> CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous@tortoisecvs.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/tortoisecvs
>
> Empty password used - try 'cvs login' with a real password
> cvs checkout: Updating TortoiseCVS

I tried to connect to cvs.savannah.gnu.org having firewalls turned off but failed again.

That’s what the program writes in the log when I’m trying to establish anonymous connection

> In E:\ Folder1\Folder2\ Folder3: "C:\Program Files\CVSNT\cvs.exe" -Q co -c
> CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous@cvs.savannah.gnu.org:/web/fsfe co
>
> Empty password used - try 'cvs login' with a real password
> Cannot access /web/fsfe co/CVSROOT
> No such file or directory
>
> Error, CVS operation failed

Didn’t really understand where/web/fsfe co/_CVSROOT_ comes from. I don’t specify it in when entering the command.

And when I’m trying to enter it as a member

> In E:\ Folder1\Folder2\ Folder3: "C:\Program Files\CVSNT\cvs.exe" -Q co -c
> CVSROOT=:ext:translator_rus@cvs.savannah.gnu.org:/web/fsfe co fsfe
>
> cvs checkout: warning: unrecognized response `Unable to open connection:' from cvs server
> cvs [checkout aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)
>
> Error, CVS operation failed

Reinhard told me that I “can ask for help on -email is unavailable- where most people with CVS access are subscribed”. I sent a letter there two days ago but it still “is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval”. I think I need to register at the site or maybe it’s even better to contact TortoiseCVS support though the other client also failed to connect to cvs.savannah.gnu.org so it’s not about this program exactly.

Thus, in my opinion if there’s no easy way out I’d rather submit translations to the mailing list. It’s a bit uncomfortable method because it takes some time to see the changes on the net but it works stably and I’m pressed for time.

Thank you for your reply, Sylvain.

Hi,

We don't exactly have experience with MS Woe tools. However, can you tell us if you manage to connect other CVS servers? If you are behind a firewall, maybe you are denied access to port 2401 (cvspserver).

Just don't get it.

I've tried two different CVS clients for Windows to connect to the repository and both failed though I did fill in all the necessary fields with the data given on this site.

The first - TortoiseCVS-1.10.4 - was constantly giving messages like

cvs checkout: warning: unrecognized response `Unable to open connection:' from cvs server
cvs [checkout aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)

An ssh-key I generated with Puttygen, registered it and then added it to Pageant.

The second - SmartCVS 6 - was doing all right until the very moment of connection to the repository - it simply canceled at the middle of the process without any notice or any further action.

I used the same ssh-key.

I've tried links:

cvs -z3 -d username@cvs.savannah.gnu.org:/web/fsfe co

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.savannah.gnu.org:/web/fsfe co

cvs -z3 -d:ext:translator_rus@cvs.savannah.gnu.org:/web/fsfe co fsfe

and other.

Both applications are as user friendly as they might be.

What am I doing wrong?

Please reply.
