Please see http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/libtool-patches/2011-06/msg00001.html for the patch submitted 4.5 years ago but which is still relevant today. The solution there is not perfect, as discussed on the list, but at least it does solve the problem and would allow me to build my project without hacking libtool.

It looks like every 5 years or so I return to this problem, only to confirm that it's still there and still not fixed. I understand the need to be patient, but, still, a single word patch languishing for almost 9 years must be some kind of a record.
