This seems to be an outdated discussion rather than an open patch, so I close it. --Joris

Unfortunately, it seems that the patch of maxima that allows to rotate 3d plots in maxima, only works using cmucl, and not gcl (or at least for me).

So, it would seem advisable to install cmucl, uninstall gcl, compile maxima with cmucl and then everything would work smoothly.

The patch to be able to talk to gnuplot using pipes I found it in
http://www.math.utexas.edu/pipermail/maxima/2006/014629.html

it allows to use the mouse to rotate plots in plot3d.

I am using maxima 5.10 and texmacs 1.0.6.6 with the patches from Andrey Gauzin in an ubuntu edgy-eft system.

To be able to compile maxima 5.10 with gcl (Gnu common lisp) I installed the package gcl, and in synaptic under package and configure, I abilitated the option to use standard ansi. This allows gcl to compile maxima.

I used the precompiled binary for texmacs 1.0.6.6

I downloaded the patches from Andrey Gauzin.

This allowed it to work in dapper correctly.

The plugin for maxima in ubuntu edgy-eft does not work. It is because in the file maxima_detect it says:

#!/usr/bin/sh

and it should say

#!/usr/bin/bash

Just that change makes it work flawlessly.

By the way, using a patch by the author of wxmaxima it is possible to use the mouse to rotate 3d plots inside the maxima session. It should be included...
