This problem should no longer occur because texmacs should never default to emacs look and feel. Closing.

Hi Darcy,

I think I've already seen the problem you mention when I introduced texmacs to several people: unless you change it in the preferences, texmacs asks interactive questions in the footer instead of in popup windows as generally expected for a desktop application. I can witness that new users so strongly expect a popup window that some of them do not even notice the question appearing on the footer. I'm even afraid that potential users who made the effort of trying texmacs could have be deterred by this very first contact, making them them think that Texmacs would be akward throughout.

Investigating the problem I discovered that it wasn't meant to be like that: the code should actually default to popup windows for interactive questions, but a tiny typo was breaking the intended behavior. I have just committed the correction.

Regarding the complexity of changing the answer on the footer : Actually there is no need to type any complex input sequence since you can use up/down arrow to switch between yes and no.

When I install a package in Emacs, if I click the Install button, Emacs would pop up a quesion dialog, and if I hit enter on the install button, Emacs would ask me on the footer.

I think TeXmacs should also adopt this behavior. I think that it will encourage TeXmacs newbies who are not familiar with Emacs.

Also it would be unconvenient:
1. click the top-right quit icon
2. release you right hand to press y
3. press enter
to close TeXmacs.

Another problem is related to localization. With the interface in Chinese, I have to use Input method to type 是/否 to answer the question. Typically, I need to type s h i SPACE to get 是. For convenience, just use the same answer as the default interface does and keep the question in Chinese.

To summarize: quesion in Chinese but answer in English
(I think other languages which need input method should also do it this way. Also, this is what Emacs does for Chinese users.)
