Notabug.

The problem was that Ubuntu 10.04 Alternate installer hadn't generated a correct /etc/fstab. There was no entry to mount /boot on my separate boot-partition, so instead grub wrote its stuff inside the mount point, the /boot-folder in my rootfs.
