I admit I don't know exactly how LEFT-TO-RIGHT MARK should be interpreted.  I only know I have a program which emits it (https://dianne.skoll.ca/projects/remind/) and that it works invisibly with urxvt, xterm and tmux, and I believe it previously worked fine with screen 4, but with screen 5 I observe this behavior (simplified test case)

% perl -e 'binmode STDOUT, ":utf8"; print "$_\x{200e}\n" for ("", "b", "ba", "baz", "baz ")'

b▒
ba␉
baz

In case there are encoding issues with the pasted text, here is hexdump output of me using the X clipboard to cut/paste the issue into a file.  If needed, I can produce a screenshot.

% xxd -g1 baz.txt
