Thank you for the feedback. It is Windows that is detecting the presence of a font called "denemo.ttf" and deciding to skip the instruction to install the new version. As the font was last changed in 2012 this problem will hopefully not bite many others.

Windows does also have a habit of continuing to believe files are in use when they are not - so if you wish to delete a version of Denemo you cannot do so after running and quitting it - you have to reboot to convince Window that you are no longer using it.

Update
I know what happened now. I used to have an old version of Denemo installed. It used a different font also named Denemo, which got installed into my windows computer. That version of the Denemo font just has a bunch of notes for text. I did uninstall the old version before trying the newer version, but it looks like windows did not uninstall the fonts that came along with it.

When I ran the .bat file, it must have seen the font called "Denemo" already installed and skipped over replacing it.

So, after going into my windows fonts, deleting any font named Denemo, rebooting the computer and then re-running the .bat file.  Problems are solved, and now the menus show up with readable text.

I did have some troubles deleting the font. Even if I close the Denemo program it seems windows thinks the font is still in use. I have to close Denemo, reboot the computer, then delete the font. Then re-run the .bat file.

I don't know if its possible to check the font version the .bat file is trying to install against what windows already has to prevent fonts with the same name that got changed during the project from conflicting in the future?

Update. I also checked if the fonts were installed on my computer. the Denemo regular one was, but the emmentaler one and the feta ones were not.
I opened the \share\fonts\truetype\denemo folder clicked on the fonts and installed them into my computer, but that did not solve the problem.  The program still look like its using the denemo font for all menu items.

Hi I also have this issue.
Windows 10
I used the denemo 2.6.0 zip file from the link on the downloads page.

I extracted the zip, ran the .bat file, waited 10 min. But the GUI menus are still all weird.

PNG attached named denemo font issue.

I'll assume you refer to the zip file on the dememo.org website,

http://denemo.org/~rshann/denemo-2.6.0.zip

and that you have extracted all the files to a specific folder and then double clicked Denemo.bat

That is a short batch file which installs the relevant fonts. If you open Denemo.bat with the notepad text editor you can see the names of the fonts it has attempted to install and check that they have been installed. You could install them yourself and try again.
A screenshot of what you see would be useful - it doesn't sound quite right for the uninstalled fonts case - what you expect is the music glyphs to appear as alphabetical characters not the other way round.

What is the problem?
