I've had discussions before with the GNU web site folks about doing this. I'd prefer to have some "official" way of handling it that's supported by the GNU infrastructure: most of the web site is all boilerplate stuff that's used by all the GNU packages.

For the example of autoconf, although those manuals are available I can't find any way of accessing them via links from the autoconf website! Old versions are not so useful if no one can find them.

I'll ask again to see if any progress has been made on this front.

some GNU projects will version their manuals so that it's easy to go back in time and compare versions, especially when the system you're using isn't running the very latest versions

for example, autoconf does:
https://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/manual/autoconf-2.67/
https://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/manual/autoconf-2.68/
https://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/manual/autoconf-2.69/

and the default is to just link to the latest version.

could we get something similar for make ? many "current" or "lts" distros are still running make 3.81/3.82.
