When the file with msgids to be excluded using the -x option contains problematic msgids, xgettext fails.

Thanks for the suggestion, that sounds plausible.
By the way, I'm a bit surprised that the second example ("blabla\004blabla") is extracted even without -a. Maybe we should add some check in the PO writer.
