The patch was reverted because was the code was apparently too slow, so we still need some solution...

No comments but a problem still present lead me to apply the patch. There is still the issue of the big-, b- and c- entities.

Very nice test! I think most of the non-rendered entities in the first lines are rendered if the font provides them. Just try selecting a truetype math font.

The problem I meant is about the special ones which have no counterpart in any font: nospace, notimes, nocomma, noplus and possibly others like varspace.

The big-, b- and c-* entities must also be handled like unicode_math_font_rep::search_font() does, by changing the font accordingly to something bigger, bold or caligraphic.

My first patch handles just the most obnoxious with a trivial check which I think should be included until the font system is changed. The rest can be hacked, but again, only after Joris comments on this.

This also appears in X11 version, and affect many other chars. Many entities defined in TeXmacs/langs/encoding/tmuniversaltounicode.scm are not well rendered. See joint file.

The check for these texmacs symbols (<nocomma>, <nospace>, etc.) is done inside unicode_math_font_rep::search_font_sub(), which is never called for non unicode fonts, like the default Roman. This results in ugly "<nocomma>"'s all over the document.

Since the font system is going to be redesigned, a hackish solution (which mimics what is done inside unicode_math_font_rep) might be good enough and it's attached as a patch, awaiting comments.
