I can confirm that the version available http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/mit-scheme/stable.pkg/9.0/mit-scheme-9.0-i386-win32.exe
does read files into the buffer correctly (and bring up the tutorial) but the next version
http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/mit-scheme/stable.pkg/9.0.1/mit-scheme-9.0.1-i386-win32.exe
does not
Somewhere between 9.0 and 9.0.1 a bug was introduced disabling the ability for the windows install to load files into buffers.

Thank you very much. That helped. However, I now have a bigger problem (using either Scheme 9.0 or 9.2 with Win 7): I will post separately because it does not belong in this thread.

http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/mit-scheme/stable.pkg/ is the place to look for all releases.

How can one obtain Edwin Release 9.0 for Windows?

I have the same issue for Release 9.2 - Edwin 3.116.
C-X C-S can write a file just fine, as confirmed by notepad, but C-X C-F <filename> finds and opens a blank buffer.
Installing Release 9.0 - Edwin 3.116, solves the problem.

I have the same problem running v9.1 in Windows XP SP3, so it is not isolated to Windows 7. New files can be created and saved just fine, but opening files results in an empty buffer, which when saved will overwrite the file (destroying it!). So the problem is definitely with the loading of the file content in to the buffer.

January 13, 2014 and this is still an issue. OS version Windows 7 64 bit Service Pack 1. C-x C-f does not open file, edwin.ini not read in $HOME directory.

using "M-x find-file" or "C-x C-f", I cann't open the file,the opened buffer is empty.
using "C-x C-b",I see that the size of opened buffer is 0.
But I can write buffer to file,other editor can open it with same content as writting.
OS is Windows 7 sp1 with nothing installed except MIT/GNU Scheme.
the setting of all is default.
