I don't think anymore that we should try to work around this in PSPP, because gnulib has a set of modules designed to fix the very same problem without changing PSPP code.

MinGW's snprintf is not C99 compliant.  The attached patch (which is against gnulib, not PSPP) attempts to work around it, but it has not yet been tested with actual mingw.

The same patch was already posted to pspp-dev, but I am now filing it as part of a bug report to allow me to keep track of its status more easily.
