From what you report it looks like the Apex 600A may have problems playing a 80m CD - you have 80m VCD's that work?  Or it's possible that the CD media you burned was wrong.

To track stuff like this down. You could try the VCD on a software media player to see if that has problems too. If so, then a media problem. Another thing to try is to burn on a second CD that's known to support 80m burning. If there still problems in the software media player and the Apex, it could a burner problem.

At any rate I doubt this is a vcdimager problem.

Using vcdimager, I build a working SVCD from a TMPGEnc
muxed MPEG.  I have to --update-scan-offsets.  The
final image fits on an 80m CD but not a 74m.

The SVCD plays flawlessly on my Apex 600A.  However,
at one point -- from 37:15 to 38:00 -- the mpeg stream
becomes corrupted.  The audio seems okay but the video
breaks up and stutters badly, freezes, colored bands
and blocks appear, etc.

Taking the same MPEG file and cutting it to 39 minutes
and burning the result on a 74m CD, there is no
corruption.

Options:
--update-scan-offset
--add-file=README.TXT,README.TXT
-t svcd
-p
-v
-l FOO
-c FOO.CUE
-b FOO.BIN
FOO.MPG
