This issue has long since been resolved with the addition of Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols ranges.

Jacob,

I don't agree with your proposed solution, there is a problem here.

It becomes apparent when looking at the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols (MAS) range u+1D400 - u+1D7FF.  The script and blackletter characters that appear in the Letterlike Symbols (LS) range are manifested there as missing slots.  The LS are meant to complete the MAS.  If one is going to use the MAS range, the LS range has to agree with it.

I do want to represent this range in FreeFont.  The plan is to take letters out of a LaTeX distribution (I think that is pretty much the idea with the MAS range).  In CVS I have taken glyphs from George Douros' Unicode Symbols font.

This plan doesn't leave much room for choice style.  One could design a whole face for this purpose, but it's going to be enough for me to make sure the letters are of about the same size and weight.

This is from Jacob Poon's report of 2007-10,
https://savannah.gnu.org/support/?106274

The script and black-letter glyphs in Letterlike Symbols (U+2100-214F) do not fit the design characteristic of the font. Although the explicit style descriptions of the characters limit to how a glyph is designed without contradicting the description, the script and black-letter glyphs glyphs can still be made to fit the design by using fixed stroke width with flat stroke terminator, similar to how the 'Courier' script and black-letter glyphs in
FreeMono. In fact, the script and black-letter glyphs in MS Gothic 2.5 and 5.00 family are designed in manners as mentioned above. The script glyphs in non-oblique fonts should be strighten up.
