perhaps an alernative could be to provide a /mingw64/bin/octave script that calls octave.bat or the octave launcher?

Oops. I completely forgot about the .bat file. Thank you for the reminder.
In case, we probably won't need this change at all.

Closing as won't fix.

@mmuetzel: should be no issues that i know of - generally, i just run the .bat file when in the shell

there's a OCTAVE_HOME/etc/pacman.d/gnupg folder in the windows version extracted from the zip/7z archives, but I've never had issues removing that and the rest of the octave folder with user level permissions whether having used the bash shell or not.

More or less OT, but related to the bash shell on Windows:

Normally, if some .zip or .tar.gz mxe-octave installation is expanded in a user's profile, that Octave installation directory can be wiped again easily by the user as long as the bash shell hasn't been used.
However, when using the bash shell it seems some pgp certificates get installed in (IIRC) OCTAVE_HOME/etc/pacman/ and they can only be wiped with Administrator credentials. At least, in my case.

I was wondering if this (=creating files with admin rights in a user profile subdir for otherwise normal user SW) can be somehow avoided.
It's merely slightly annoying then a showstopper.

The attached patch adds the path to the launcher to the PATH variable. That allows an easier start Octave with all required environment variables from that bash.

@lostbard: I'd like to push that to the release branch of MXE Octave. Ideally before Octave 9.2.0 is packaged for Windows.
Do you think this could cause any issues?

When installing Octave for Windows with one of the distributed installers, a shortcut "Bash Shell" is added to the Windows Start menu. That shortcut opens a shell (bash) which allows to execute any of the programs bundled with Octave for Windows.
However, the Octave launcher isn't found on the PATH by default.
