That sounds like a generic question about access permissions on macOS. You'll probably receive better help for that if you ask on a generic macOS forum.
Or use a search engine of your choice, e.g.:
https://www.google.com/search?q=macos+change+app+permissions

Gracias.

Thank you for the bug report. However, first please understand that you are using a very old and unsupported version of Octave. I would recommend that you refer to the wiki for Octave on macOS (https://wiki.octave.org/Octave_for_macOS) and install a supported version of either 4.4.1 or 5.1.0.

After doing that, if you still have problems, the best place to get help with them would be the source of the Octave you have installed (octave-app, homebrew, fink, or macports).

I'm closing this bug as invalid, but feel free to comment again if I'm wrong or if problems persist after installing a recent version of Octave.

So I upgraded my Mac to Catalina over the weekend, and since the upgrade I cannot access the directories with my Octave files.

For example:

>> cd 'Desktop'

warning: load_path: .: Operation not permitted
error: cd: unable to find current directory
error: cd: unable to find current directory

and when I try to change the directory using the application file browser (my files are in a folder on my Desktop) I get:

>> QKqueueFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: open: Operation not permitted

Warning: QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /Users/jamahlanderson/Desktop/Machine Learning
error: unable to find current directory
error: unable to find current directory
error: unhandled execution exception -- trying to return to prompt

This was never a problem before Catalina. Have others experienced this? Any suggestions other than downgrading my OS? I am running GNU Octave 3.8.0. My Mac (MacBook Pro Retina) is running Catalina 10.15.
