clang-17 compiles the software without dumping core.

Clang 16 is not (conveniently) available to me, and without a backtrace, I don't have enough information to pursue this issue.

It may indeed be a compiler bug, but if so I expect the LLVM team will want a backtrace, too (and possibly a disassembly of the relevant basic block).

Tagging unreproducible until someone can produce these.

  The file that caused the core dump is "tmac/groff_mdoc.7".

  Compiling without my extra flags does not cause a core dump.

  So this is a defect in the clang-16 compiler(?).

2.  Please attach the core file from the troff command that crashed.  It will probably be in your build directory.
