Fixed in git, commit ae61bab6, by checking that there is no slash after the dot -- and if there is, setting the extension to zero characters.

To reproduce, put 'set speller "aspell -x -c -l en" in your .nanorc, then run 'git commit --amend' in a git reposiotry, select the commit message, and type: ^T ^T

Result: "[ Error writing temp file: No such file or directory ]"

The problem is that the full filename (/some/dir/.git/COMMIT_EDITMSG) contains a dot, but this dot does not mark an extension.

The solution seems to be: when there is a slash somwhere after the dot, then nano should conclude that there is no extension.
