Fixed in git, commit b38f0cba, by ensuring that the "DOS" or "Mac" gets printed only when 'openfile->fmt' is DOS_FILE or MAC_FILE, not when it is UNSPECIFIED.

The offending commit is 77da54c6: "do not store an error message in the record of another buffer".

To reproduce, run:

src/nano --ignore fresh README

(where 'fresh' is a nonexistent file).
See that the status bar says: "[ fresh -- 0 lines (Mac) ]".
Now type ^O.  There is no "[Mac Format]" in the prompt, so the "(Mac)" in the status message was false.

Bug exists since version 5.7.
