Thank you for the report, Graham.

As Bjarni noted, unfortunately we have had to withdraw support for groffer, and it will not appear in the forthcoming groff 1.23.0 release.  Its author has not been active as a groff developer for some years, and no one else on the team is willing to maintain it.

The components that groffer invokes as part of your test case, however--the groff and troff executables, the ms macro package, and the PDF output driver, are still actively supported, however.

If you can reproduce misbehavior in glyph rendering using those components, we're interested in bug reports and we have contributors willing to analyze such issues and fix them if possible.

The "groffer" part of "groff" is no longer maintained.

From the "ChangeLog" file:

        Delete groffer.

Per discussion on the groff development mailing list, there is
no desire to retain the maintenance of this portion of the groff
        distribution.

These are the commands that are used to create the pdf:
groffer -ms test.ms

groffer -ms test.ms -Tpdf --groff > test.pdf
