Fixed in git, commit c09e96f2, by using a "random" call of SLang_init_tty().

(The second parameter of that call ought to be the opposite of ISSET(PRESERVE), but it appears to make no difference, so I have just used zero.  See https://www.jedsoft.org/slang/doc/html/cslang-6.html#ss6.1.)

Version 2.0.9 and 2.1.10 are not affected, version 2.2.4 is.

To reproduce, configure nano with --enable-tiny --with-slang, compile, and then run: 'src/nano --suspend'.

Then type: ^Z fg <Enter>, type a few letters, and then ^X.  Then try to cancel the question about saving the changed buffer with ^C.  Nothing happens.

Bug exists since at least version 2.9.1.
