The change in 4.4 in the way line numbers are colored was not intentional; it was a side effect of optimizing the way in which rows are cleared.

Personally, I always use something like 'set numbercolor cyan' in my nanorc, so I didn't notice the change in behavior.  But now, looking at things while using --ignorercfiles...  On the one hand I like the colored space after the line number for small numbers, and have no trouble reading the text directly after it (although it does feel a bit "cramped").  But on the other hand I dislike the extra colored space after the line number for the higher numbers (because then there is no space before them and only a space after them, which feels asymmetrical), and having it the default terminal color instead feels more "airy", more relaxed.

So yes, okay: I will change it back to how it was from version 2.7.1 to 4.3.

Hello,

From v4.3 to v4.4 there was a change in how line numbers are coloured: the space next to the line number is now in colour (in my case it's grey). This, however, causes the text of the main body to be immediately next to the coloured region. I have problems with reading the text without this additional black space. Would it be possible to either add an additional black space next to the main text, or have an option to colour the already present space in black instead?

Thanks.
