Can you reproduce the crash?

Self-compiled nano?  Or plain distro version?  Which platform?  Can you attach your .nanorc?  Have you changed any of nano's syntax files?

How did you do the two git commits?  In another terminal while nano stayed open with the css file?  Do you use nano also to write the commit message?  (Not that this should have any influence; just trying to understand the sequemce of events.)

Was working on a css file, then tried to open another file(php) in another buffer(multibuffering is on) and got an error:
Sorry! Nano crashed!  Code: 11.  Please report a bug.

Few moments before this did 2 git commits with one line changes in each in this css file.

I have this version of:
GNU nano, version 3.2
 (C) 1999-2011, 2013-2018 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
 (C) 2014-2018 the contributors to nano

 Compiled options: --disable-libmagic --disable-wrapping-as-root --enable-utf8
