Thu 18 Oct 2018 08:17:39 PM UTC, comment #2: if you use a web worker for major (or even moderate) non-async functions, then those processes will run in a separate process that doesn't block the browser, tabs or pages. see this page for info about web workers in mozilla extensions: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Archive/Using_workers_in_extensions i think that using web workers would be a really big deal for this extension.
