Additionally, when you use ^C to conclude the input, and when you finish editing and exit from nano, it says on the terminal: "stdin: Interrupted system call".  This is ugly.  When you use ^D, there is no such error message.  (There is another message, "Read xx lines", but it mostly gets overwritten by the prompt.  It would be better if it didn't get oberwritten.)

When running 'nano -' to read text from standard input, nano prints the following "helpful" message:

Reading from stdin, ^C to abort

But "abort" to me means: cancel, discard everything, don't even start nano.  But that is not what happens when one presses ^C.

Nano starts, and all the lines that were completed are present in the buffer; only the line of text that hasn't been terminated with an <Enter> (if any) has been discarded.  I think this latter behavior is unwanted.  The user typed something, so eat it up.  It is easy enough to discard it later: ^K, done.

So, I propose that nano instead shows this message:

Reading from standard input; type ^D or ^D^D to finish.

The ^D is enough right after an <Enter>; after some text, two ^Ds are required.  There is no need to mention that ^C will finish the input too.
