Reproduced, and the key value was placed in corner, breaking the command input.

Commands to reproduce:
^A: bindkey -m a echo a

If you type that a second time, i.e. when the binding is active, you can't type the a because it triggers the binding.

Key bindings from copy mode also count for command mode (^A:).

This seems at least unintuitive especially since the man page advertises command mode as a good way to change key bindings on the fly.
